Brain Activity
This is the funny yet thought provoking work by David Shrigley who is currently exhibiting at the Hayward Gallery at the Southbank Centre. He has a vast collection of illustrations with witty captions, surreal sculptures, and simple animations, all of which are thoroughly entertaining. They also carry a deeper meaning, touching on politics and modern day life, encouraging the viewer to laugh at the stupidness of the human race in a light hearted way.

James Lloyd
Last week I went to the private view of James Lloyd's new exhibition at Browse & Darby in central London. He won the BP portait award in 1997 and is well known for his painting of Paul Smith in the National Portrait Gallery. The current exhibition is on until 8th March.

Make Your Mark
I love the complete randomness of Julie Mehretu's work, what looks like lots of small doodles and mark makings has turned into something mesmerising.

Fancy that!
This week I was lucky enough to go to the private view of Stuart Pearson Wrights new exhibtion which has opened at the Riflemakers Gallery in Soho. I was fascinated by his distinctive and striking portraits of celebrities and heavily tattooed people, which he often adds diamonds, pearls, and sequins to. We also had the opportunity to meet him which was very humbling. I strongly recommend a visit!

I have been teaching myself how to use Photoshop over the last few months, which has been a bit of a struggle....but I am finally getting to grips with the basics.
For my software module I have to produce three different CD covers for an unsigned band called 'The Silent' using the Adobe suite. Here are the final three covers:

A Motion to Stop
I thought it might be about time to put up some work from my first term at Uni. I am just getting used to the constant flow of work and balancing all my modules! With one week left until the Christmas holidays the daunting deadlines are drawing closer, fingers crossed.....
The following work is for my Animation module. We have to plan and produce a stop motion animation using one character to act out a simple story. My character is called Hector Bones, and is, of course, a skeleton man. I have been playing around with the different software used in animation and am now in the process of making my character. It has been so interesting to learn about all the different stages of development and processes it takes to produce a stop motion animation. I am really looking forward to seeing my final edited film!
This is an animation by the wonderful Kirsten Lepore, an animator whose work I have followed for quite a while:
This is an armature test for my animation:
